Streak Free Laminate Floors Are Elegant And Affordable

By Paulette Mason

Homeowners choose laminate flooring for an elegant look for a lower price. Streak free laminate floors are a lot easier to install than natural flooring, and aesthetically look similar to the alternatives. Maintenance of these floors areas is also fairly easy, but it's important to keep the procedures in mind to keep your floors in top shape.

Homeowners appreciate the durability and physical attractiveness of laminate floors, and often prefer them to high quality carpets. However, many are concerned of visible streaks, scratches, lines, bending, warping, and expanding planks on these floors that can often occur without correct maintenance and cleaning. In order to avoid these damages, it's important that you make sure to keep up with the regular maintenance laminate floors require.

Damages occur due to particles like sand, dust, dirt, and grit. They grind against the surfaces when not cleaned up. Therefore, avoid these unwanted situations by keeping the surface of the floors spick-and-span. You can also place door mats outside your doors to catch some of the grime before you step inside your home. Make sure to also keep these mats fairly clean so they do their job more efficiently.

Make sure your furniture isn't being slid around your floors. The weight of these objects will definitely cause scratches and lines across the laminates. One way of preventing this is to place protective pads on the legs or mass of the furniture so it doesn't directly touch the floors.

There are other ways of avoiding unwanted damage to your floors. If you have any pets, make sure to trim their nails regularly so that they don't scratch the floor as they run or walk. Also, make sure to clean up any liquid that falls on the floor so that you keep your floors as durable as possible in the long run.

You can sweep and vacuum your floors to remove potentially damaging particles off the laminate surfaces. However, make sure the cleaners you use are appropriately gentle enough for the flooring. Afterwards, use a dry mop to clean all the particles you didn't catch before. Make sure the mop is dry and not wet, since the extra liquid can leave streaks or damage the laminate. The frequency of cleaning should correlate to the number of people walking around your house regularly.

If your floors are overly dirty, you can use a moist rag soaked in a homemade solution to clean the areas. Dissolve 1 cup of distilled vinegar in clean water and gently scrub the surfaces, but make sure to immediately dry the floors afterwards. Once dry, you can use a market-bought cleaning solution on a dry mop to finish up cleaning the entire flooring area. These solutions come in spray or liquid form.

Although your floor manufacturer will provide guidelines for maintenance, cleaning, and repairs for your laminate surfaces; you may want to avoid constantly referring to them. In that case, you should apply a touch upper coating to the floors to add extra protection to the surface. However, make sure to still properly clean the surface to prevent long-term damage.
