Weight Training For Basketball

Part of conditioning your body for basketball is figuring out a way to get your muscles strong enough to ensure long games of basketball. By building strength in your legs, arms, back, and all around your body you will help make it easier to run, make shots, use your body to take contact, and overall give you an edge over the competition.

Medicine Ball Wall Throws are one type of common basketball exercise. In addition to helping with your passing, controlling, and catching skills, this exercise helps with hand-eye coordination. To perform this exercise, you will need a medicine ball. Grab the ball and clutch it to your chest as you face the wall. Throw the ball at a specific target on the wall as hard as you can. Be sure your hands are in front of you so you can catch the ball as it comes back toward you. Once you have caught it, continue to repeat these steps.

For this exercise, begin by getting into a pushup position as you use both hands to straddle the ball. Now, lower your body so you are halfway toward the ground. Next, quickly explode off the floor and get on top of the basketball and stay in this position for one second. Finally, remove yourself from the ball and gently fall to the ground. Continue to repeat these steps until you feel like you have accomplished your goal.
