Tactics For Saving Money On Cooling Costs This Summertime

By Pete Demuth

Last summer, I was home with the children for over 2 months. We live in Arizona, and we suffered through a lot of outrageous dog days with temperatures topping 115 degrees. As a result, we worked our central air conditioner frequently. When my husband opened the energy statement last June, he almost had a coronary. Our air conditioning system usage basically tripled our utility costs. We needed to find out a different method to stay cool.

We needed to find a more affordable cooling solution, and we found it in a window ac system. We decided to invest in a couple of window a/c systems and position them strategically throughout our home. We installed one in the living room, one in the children' bedroom, and one in our bed room. We figured that these were the spaces where we needed the cooling the most. We also swore to not turn on the central air conditioning conditioner again throughout the summer season.

We were amazed by the savings! While we did need to invest a little bit in the 3 devices, we got a good deal on them and only invested $500. My spouse and I invested one-half of a Saturday installing the window air conditioners in the windows. We didn't need to shell out money for any messy or pricey installation. This was a really easy Do It Yourself job. One of the very best advantages of switching to window air conditioners was that we could only cool one specific room at a time. Throughout the day, when we just weren't in our bedroom we just didn't run the ac unit. This helped us trim our electrical power costs tremendously.

The least expensive window air conditioning system will cost you about $130. A device in this price range will certainly have the ability to cool a small room around 150 ft.. In spite of that cheap price, even the tiniest systems have some fantastic functions, including push-button control, programmable timer, and two fan speeds.

For our living-room, we bought a somewhat larger window device. This 14,000 BTU air conditioning unit was able to easily cool 500 ft. in our living room. The window air conditioning unit that we went with in the living-room also included a push-button control, which was really handy when I needed to change the speed from the kitchen.

If you are trying to find an affordable way to keep cool all summer long, window air conditioning unit is your best choice.
