Seven Simple Rules On How To Clean A Wetsuit To Ensure Its Longevity

By Christine Stewart

Wetsuits are expensive and need to be maintained appropriately so that you can wear them for a long time. These suits are easily damaged and once damaged, they are of no use. Therefore, you need to make sure you take good care of your wetsuits. This article discusses seven rules on How to Clean a Wetsuit.

As we all understand, these suits are used in wet environments. This should not make you think that they are not supposed to be washed after you use them. Therefore, you need to rinse them after use to remove any element which might have been stuck in them when they were being used. When rinsing, ensure that you rinse both the outside and the inside using cold water.

The material that makes a lot of these suits is stretchy. After you have rinsed the suit, you should allow it to dry. To dry the suit, make sure that you fold it at the waist and put it on a heavy hanger that can contain the weight of the suit. If you fail to adhere to this, and hang it by the shoulders, the suit will stretch.

It is good that you take your suit to commercial cleaners for cleaning once in a while. These cleaners remove dirt as well as disinfect your suit. When such is done, the probability of getting sick because of disease-causing germs in water is reduced. Also, salt, organic remains, and chlorine are removed by these cleaners.

If you do not want the suit to age fast, you should dry it away from the sun. The UV rays have been found by research to cause the suit to lose its flexibility. You want the suit to be flexible so that you can find it easy to swim or surf in it.

Most of these suits have a zipper. You need to take care of the zipper if you want to use your suit for a long time. Zippers are easily affected by the saline water; they rust in the long run. Therefore, you need to take good care of them. Zippers do not work properly when they rust. When this happens, you will be forced to buy a new suit.

Some of these suits smell bad, primarily when they are used in salty water. To remove the bad odor, rinse the suit in water which has fabric softener. The fabric softener will remove the bad smell as well as give the suit a pleasant smell. However, never use perfumes on your suit as it may affect other swimmers or suffers.

If you enjoy surfing in your suit, you need to take good care of it. Do not expose your suit to too much sun since it will get damaged. Rinse your suit immediately after surfing. Was your suit once in a while. Do not iron your suit and use cleaning agents that are precisely made to clean these types of suits.
