The Benefits Of Full Body Scan

By David Lee

This refers to a process where in the entire body of a patient will be scanned. This is an important part during the treatment and diagnosis of illnesses. This is referred as a full body CT scan if the technology used is computed tomography during scanning. Also, there are some other technology types used for imaging as well. This is considered also as one common procedure used by many but the results may be some complications and risks.

When compared to some other imaging procedures, the result of CT scans may be a high exposure to radiation. The exposure is often associated to having a small increase of cancer risk. A full body scan will be taking series of images of the lungs, pelvis, heart, and abdomen of patients. The images are specifically very thin and are formed like cross sectional slices in the bodies interior. Reassembling the slices using a computer will provide the doctors with the detailed views of the organs, tissues, and bones.

The devices that are being used for the procedure are referred to as full body scanners. The result of images depend upon the technology type. This may be either alternative wavelength images of naked bodies or cartoon like images of people. These scanners detect the non metal items and not like metal detectors.

So here are the following benefits of the scans. The first one is the symptoms will make sense. These body scans generally are considered as one way which can be very helpful during the diagnosis of specific abnormalities and diseases. And also, considered as excellent aids in verifying the size, existence, and location of the tumors, detecting disorders in bones and muscles, and also aneurysms or other injury types.

However, there are still no scientific evidences that demonstrate the effectiveness of computed tomography scans for the detection of diseases. And therefore, the administration for food and drugs has not yet approved this as one general tool for screening until now. Another detection information which the scan can tell if the calcium amount in the arteries.

In this information, the doctors can tell on the calcification's of arteries that indicates whether a particular person has cardiovascular disease. Being able to know about this may need to pay for an expensive type of CT scan. However, there are some alternatives for this including coronary calcium heart scan. These two are less expensive. Scans like computed tomography are considered as effective for the detection of colon cancer and lung cancer, but researches are still on going.

However, there are also some disadvantages of these technologies. Common problems of health like hypertension and diabetes are not detected. The legs, head, and the feet cannot be scanned, thus, there are problems that cannot be determined. Lastly, reliability is low compared to the traditional screening techniques like breast and cervical cancers.

The results of it may possibly be faulty. It may sometimes detect some lesions and growth which are not dangerous to the health like scar tissues from the previous infection of the lungs or benign cysts on ovaries. Because of this, you may need to undergo further tests due to unclear results.

Yielding some negative results. Sometimes, the results are clean even if a person has health problems. Similar to not detecting some common diseases like small cancer tumors and hypertension.
