Challenges Faced By People Living In Umn Housing Off Campus

By Pamela Burns

The main challenge comes with searching for a place to stay. There are many things to have in mind during this process. The size of the house, the money that a person is willing to spend on rent and the preferred location will influence the choice of rental umn housing off campus. It is difficult to find a place that meets all the requirements and sometime people have to compromise one need.

Nowadays landlords ask for huge deposits with partial refunds. This money is paid during the transfer of lease. It is expected that the renter takes extra care of the house so that by the time they are moving out, it is still as new as it was. This is practically impossible. The deposit paid will serve as repair fee. A very small percentage of the money is normally refunded.

Some homeowners ask for too much rent. With the changes in the economy, it is becoming harder and harder for some people to afford rent especially in urban areas. The amount is also not constant. It may be raised any time. This is a major problem to renters as they have no control over this variable. The higher the rent goes the more difficult it becomes to raise the money needed.

Rental property is a temporary shelter. There is no guarantee of long tenancy periods. People live in them for as long as the owner wishes. In case they decide to change the function of the property from a residential to a commercial building, renters have no choice but to pack and go. There are sudden evictions due to different reasons.

There are people who love solitude. They may live in places with very few neighbors. For them, such house will be inconveniencing. This is because landlords visit their property any time they wish. They may send regular repair team to come and inspect for any damages. A person cannot do things in secrecy as everything is being monitored by the owner.

It is the duty of the landlord to ensure that the property in good conditions. There should be no leakages, no broken windows and well maintained tiles. Some do not fulfill this responsibility. They neglect the well being of their renters and the house too. No matter how many times they are reminded to, they fail to carry out repair work.

Some homes have very harsh rules and regulations. They may limit the number of people living in one house. This is a problem for families with many members and also those with many visitors. The time that one is required to leave the compound or return home may be specified for some places. For people working far and need to leave early or return late, this can be a major challenge.

It is easier dealing with the landlord directly than having a middle-person. Too many parties promote conflict. Due to the hustle involved and lack of time, people opt for brokers. They pay them to help them find a nice place. This often yields bad results. They end up spending too much on brokers and finding wrong houses.
