Functions Of General Assembly Candidates

By Joseph Morris

The General Assembly is a governing body that deliberates and creates policies for a certain state. The functions of the New Jersey General Assembly include passing bills on public policy matters, managing finances on state spending, regulating tax rates, and voting on gubernatorial vetoes. NJ General Assembly Candidates will participate in an election held on the 5th of November, 2019.

Presently, New Jersey turns out to be in a Democratic trifecta with statistics considerably on the side of Democrats. During the first quarter of 2017, the government was almost equally divided. As the main polls neared, preferences conclusively went in favor of Democrats. The general elections took place in early November of that same year.

The entire eighty positions in assembly were open for elections then. The competition between the two parties was reportedly a close match. New members are normally elected to serve two year terms. Two years after the 2017 races, the next matches will be held in 2019.

The existing legislation has already sent numerous bills to the Senate of the House, most of which were approved. These include paid sick leaves for working men and women in the state, permits for taxpayers who would voluntarily like to contribute funds for ovarian cancer research, and compensation fees for freelance workers. Many of these achievements must not be underestimated.

Interested candidates for the next election must be citizens of United States, residing for a minimum of two years in the district they wish to represent. They must disclose any criminal convictions and must be at least 21 years old and above. Moreover, at least one hundred signatures must be obtained via petition and submitted to the New Jersey Secretary of State.

Prior to the most recent polls, the state of New Jersey had always politically swayed on the side of the left. The forty legislative districts of NJ should elect two assembly members including one Senator into office. Primary elections will first take place before the main polls. These help to narrow down the competition and allow voters to conscientiously gauge their preferences and weight their options in choosing the next group of leaders.

Independent candidates are still required to submit similar requirements asked of partisan candidates too. To vote, native residents in the vicinity must 18 years of age on the date that the general elections commence. Registration begins around 21 days prior to the elections. Applicants can download and fill out registration forms from the government website and mail it or deliver in person to the appropriate authorities.

In the registration process, applicants will be required to present valid documents or IDs for verification purposes. If they cannot provide this along with their registration form, the necessary documents must be brought along to the polling place on the actual day of main polls. If the applicant has already submitted these documents prior to polls, authorities will have no further need of the requirements on the day of the general election.

All citizens have the obligation to vote during elections as a means of carrying out their duties to the State. It is not something to be ignorant about because the platforms of all elected public servants will essentially be reflected upon the community they belong to. Because all citizens will be the direct constituents of leaders they elect, voting is not merely a duty but rather a privilege.
