Why Trophies Are Still Relevant In Modern Sports

By Ian Driggers

Trophies are rewards, put simply. Any athlete enjoys receiving a trophy for his or her hard work all season. It has nothing to do with how much the trophy is worth; it has to do with the symbol of success. In other words, a trophy is recognition and appreciation, which translates to future positive behaviours. Achieving in sports is no exception.

Whatever your reasons for wanting to reward your sports athlete, a simple standard trophy or a large silver plated trophy, it makes no difference; it still signifies the same thing. The athlete that wins the trophy cherishes the pride felt inside and the legacy that goes along with the award. The trophy symbolizes the victory that the players have created.

Whether you want to award a player with a simple silver-plated trophy cup or a large standard award, what better way to show exceptional achievement than to award a trophy? Those who win trophies and awards cherish the pride and legacy that go along with the reward. The winner revels in the symbolism of the prize itself victory.

Some golfing tourneys will also recognize those golfers that have accomplished the most difficult shot of the game; the hole in one. These golf trophies are awarded to those that have made this shot whether or not they have actually placed in the tournament. These trophies are made of all different types of materials, while gold, silver, and pewter are the most widely used.

Besides winning the big check reward, many golf tournaments honour competition winners with awards, big and small. Some golf trophies are huge silver cups, while others are in the shapes of golfers swinging clubs.

While always important to reward gifted athletes with accolades, let's not forget the hard-working folks who helped the competitors succeed the coaches! Winning coaches deserve sports trophies, too! In hunting and fishing, sometimes traditional sporting trophies are presented. But, the trophies can also be the head or other part of the hunted animal that is preserved and/or mounted.
