Drills And Moves For Basketball Dribbling

By Saad Mirza

Dribbling is one the fundamentals of basketball. While this skill is really simple from the start it can get more complicated. The best players are masters of dribbling in all of its forms. Learning different drills for practicing dribbling can make you a better player and give you more confidence on the court.

When you stretch go slow and easy. There is time to hustle once the game has begun. Use the time that you are stretching to test your body and ensure that everything feels right. Using your stretches to promote bodily awareness will tell you how hard you can push yourself in the game. Remember what you learned in gym class. These are usually the best exercises for you to do. These include basic squats, arm reaches over the head, and those stretches where you turn side to side.

How well you stretch will determine your overall performance on the court. By ensuring you stretch before every game, you're not only protecting yourself but also ensuring that you play a good game. As an added benefit, stretching and warming up benefits your overall health as well. Make sure to stretch on body sides of your body. Two times or more for each stretch is generally a good number to make sure you loosen your muscles and are ready to play. Each stretch should be done the same number of times on each side of your body.

Make sure you choose stretches that will get all of the parts of your body. Basketball uses a lot of different muscles so ensuring they are all limber is important. It is also important to not over-extend any part of your body. If something hurts stretch it less, forcing yourself may actually cause you damage and make you not able to play.

Dribbling far out to the side or starting the ball before you start your run can also be a fun exercise. This comes in handy during a game when you want to feint to a side and get the ball moving before the other player has a chance to take it away from you. This ball control is sure to get reactions from the crowd and is pretty easy to practice.

These two simple workouts are practical ways to improve your ability to handle the basketball. One part of basketball that many people overlook to practice is their dribbling skills. Being a good basketball handler can help you reduce the overall amount of turnovers you commit every game. When you can minimize your turnover average you help give your team a much better fighting chance to be able to win more ball games. Practice the workouts mentioned to help your abilities in basketball for the rest of your life.
