Understanding Abstract Art East Coast

By Thomas Johnson

Abstract art has always been a mystery to people no matter where they go. It is quite common to see a lot of paintings that just have random shapes and colors smashed together to form something that does not seem to convey any message, or so it seems. For those who want to get a better understanding of abstract art east coast, it is important to always look from an analytical perspective.

Now, one thing to remember about these kinds of artwork is that it does not have any direct representation. Most artworks are usually a representation of something. For example, a painting of a river is literally a painting that an artist did of an actual river that the painter was looking at and wanted to paint.

With this, it is often said that the sign of a true artist is how well he or she represents his or her inspiration. Most people would see this as how well he or she makes his or her artwork closest to how the inspiration really looks like. Though this is the popular thinking, a lot of artists still try to go for abstraction when they work.

The thing about abstraction is that its meaning is actually quite complex because it is open to so many interpretations. Though the final output of this type of art may look random, it does represent the culture and the situation of the creator during what time period he or she was in. For a person to understand this kind of artwork, it is important to first understand the artist.

There are two things to consider when analyzing this type of artwork. These two things are the mood and emotion behind the artwork. One can tell instantly the mood of the artist by simply looking at the construction of the artwork. The history will also be able to tell the mood of the artwork as to whether the artist was happy, sad or angry at the time of creation.

First of all would be the mood which can be found through the history. By looking at the biography or history of the artwork, one can see what the situation of the creator was at that time and therefore the mood. Second would be the emotions that stemmed out as inspiration. The historical background will also give an idea as to why the artist created it in the first place. From there, it is possible to feel what he or she felt as well.

The last thing to consider would be the own personal feelings and emotions of the one admiring the piece of work. Art is not so much about analysis but rather more about feeling. It loses its purpose if the one watching it only considers the historical and analytical aspect of the work without considering his or her own perceptions and feelings about it.

Always remember that the purpose of a piece of artwork is to nourish the soul. By taking into consideration these three things, it will aid in better understanding not only the artwork but also oneself. The beautiful thing about abstract art is that it does not just look at the world from a one sided point of view but from a very broad perspective which is why it is possible to learn so much from it.
