Training Benefits Of A Modern Dog Crate For Your Pet

By Kimberly Patterson

Having pets at home helps so much especially if you are living alone. Dogs, in particular, are just the sweetest nicest creatures that you can have live with you. The maintenance and money spent of these animals are just all worth the amount of time, effort and money that you shell out.

Dogs definitely need more training than cats but that fact compensates for dogs not being the cleanest domesticated animals there are. There is a need to train them well so that they do not just go anywhere inside the house. You can use different tools like a modern dog crate to assist in training.

Some may say that a crate would be more like a prison like enclosure than it is a good place for them to rest. But for those that are being trained to use a crate since their early years, they are likely to find some rest and make it as their personal haven. This happens because wild dogs have evolved to see this as their den and thus staying in such a place makes them feel safe while resting.

Having a crate can also help with training dogs who are not so used to being indoors. Wild dogs are instinctively trained by their mothers to keep the den clean, so you can be sure that they will not have feces or urine in there. It is just natural for them to keep it that way.

It is vital to choose the right den for the animal. The smaller pups are best for the plastic types while the metal ones are for bigger dogs. The crate size is adequate if they can comfortable sprawl out their limbs and stretch in the area. Make sure that there is no excess space apart from what is necessary so they would not be tempted to disembowel in another area of the enclosure.

As disciplinary measure, this can also be used as a pen for them in case there is a need for momentary time out. The point is not to take away their freedom but to cut off the fun and play for a while. To make sure that they do not associate the space in a negative way, do not scold them or punish them while they are in their resting place.

Crates are perfect for managing them. Training and management are two different things. Training is essentially teaching them to do something new like sit or roll over, but management is a measure of avoiding any unnecessary actions like jumping on visitors once they enter the house. Do this by giving a chew toy that they are going to be preoccupied with while being inside the den.

Training them for a routine to go and do their business would vary depending on how old they are. Pups that are 12 weeks old or less do not have a strong bladder to they need to be let out every two hours. Some observation may be needed for you to know what set up works well for them.

What is great about a crate is that it can also match your interior and would not necessarily have to look out of place. The benefits that it has also make training easier and will not have to damage the relationship you have with the dog. There may be some whining and crying at the beginning but they would eventually get used to it.
