Training for necessary life survival skills should already be taught in school and would do well if it was required just as how maths and science are a requirement. But since this is not the case there is a need to get the knowledge from somewhere else. Certification for CPR only require the practical knowledge so that you will be qualified to save lives when necessary.

Knowing that someone in an area is capable of helping during an accident or when someone faints provides a certain level of peace for people in that community. Cardiac arrest or heart attacks are one of the most common things that happen to people. This could be caused by the build up of cholesterol in the body. Another scenario would be when a person does not have enough blood sugar and they may faint too. The frequency of this happening to people means that there should be more in a community that knows CPR.

Consider this as a great service to your community and the nation. While you may not be the biggest hero the world will see, at least you can offer a hand when it is needed. You can get these trainings from schools and organizations near you. Also consider getting basic first aid courses while you are at it. By the end of each course, and when you actually get to apply it, friends and family would be more grateful to have you around.
